I received a mailer this last week from Congressman Joe Barton, my opponent in the Texas 6th Congressional District Republican Primary race.  On the back, it boasts of three areas (quoted below) where he “kept his promises.”  Well, as they say, let’s let his record speak for itself.

“Joe Barton voted to cut government spending every time.”

FACT:

  • He voted most recently for the Farm bill of which 80% was for food stamps without any concessions for reforming the waste, fraud and abuse of that system.  It also included subsidies for multitudes of industries with no sunset provisions.
  • He voted for the Export-Import Bank Reauthorization Act of 2012 which increased this organization’s loan limit, funded by our tax dollars.
  • He voted for the Automotive Industry Financing Act in December 2008 which provided government subsidies for that industry.
  • He voted for the “Cash for Clunkers” program which raised the cost of used cars and cost us taxpayers $2.5+ billion.
  • He was the chairman of the conference committee between the Senate and the House which put in place within the Department of Energy the loan program which President Obama has used to funnel billions of our tax money to such firms as Solyndra.

“Joe Barton stood firmly and voted ‘no’ to raising the debt ceiling.”

FACT:

  • On January 23, 2013, he voted for the bill “To Ensure the Complete and Timely Payment of the Obligations of the United States Government until May 19, 2013”.  This bill did not simply raise the debt ceiling — it suspended it completely!  By May 19, this bill had added over $300 billion to our debt.  In addition, it included additional funding for Obamacare.
  • Prior to then, he voted for S627 in July 2011, a bill which increased our debt ceiling.
  • He has voted to raise the debt ceiling several other times during his 30 years in Congress, so standing firm once during an election season does not translate into being a fiscal conservative determined to rein in reckless spending.
  • Barton only voted “no” to raising the debt ceiling on the most recent bill when it was clear the bill was going to pass.

“Joe Barton is a leading voice for adding the balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.”

FACT:

Space does not permit me to expound adequately on this, but the proposed amendment was fraught with issues that made it a dangerous proposal.  The amendment would not have accomplished its goal, but would have locked in unconstitutional spending.  The solution is to limit government to spending only on those things for which the Constitution grants it the authority to finance (see Article I Section 8 of our Constitution).  However, for a politician running for re-election, this makes for a good sound bite for the uninformed. You can claim something while running for re-election, but facts are stubborn things, and these are just some of the facts that are on the record.  You can look them up for yourself.  As they say, his record speaks for itself. As your representative in the next Congress, I will adhere to the Constitution and fight to restore the limitations placed upon the government by it.  This is the only way that we will truly “rein in Washington’s reckless spending.”

We deserve better! We can do better!

Early voting will continue until the 28th, and Election Day is on March 4th. Please get out to vote and encourage your friends to do so as well. Find out where you can vote here. And please also consider donating $25, $50, $100, or more today to help our campaign win back the 6th Congressional District and to elect a true pro-liberty, pro-Constitution representative!

Sincerely,
Frank Kuchar

I saw the same mailer and thought Joe was confused. Did Joe think he was running against Obama on the ballot as my representative?

Joe, the man has spit all over our Constitution. He doesn’t have a law, he makes one. He has a law, he changes it. He doesn’t enforce the laws that are on the books. His breaks the laws he rewards them.

Joe, he has made Congress 100% meaningless. Joe, he has made the plural you 100% useless (except to be a major expense).

Joe, you are one of several hundred people that could actually do something about it. Have you signed and actively pursued getting signatures on an Articles of Impeachment?

Joe, you have FAILED, LIED, and GREATLY DISAPPOINTED!!! Joe must go.
